Book Pick of the Week!

If you have never picked up Mary McCarthy's
The Group, I recommend doing so followed by the updated A Fortunate Age by Joanna Smith Rakoff. McCarthy writes a satirical portrait of six Vassar graduates from the 30s who move to Manhattan to pursue careers in the arts. The writing is vastly superior to the newcomer, but the updated version may appeal to those looking for something more time relevant. In Rakoff's similar version that focuses on Generation X, the characters are also postcollegiates who are trying to find their way and purpose while navigating the jungles of life and the city.
