The Office will go on :)

Steve Carell has signed on for three more years of The Office which is some of the best TV news I've heard in a while. Also the creator of the show Ricky Gervais is planning a spinoff but there are no details as to who or what it will be about. All I can say is in Michael Scott We Trust...ummm??? well as long as Jim is there too of course :)

Lindsay Lo making Music & Movies

Lohan has not only been busy making her movie Labor Pains but she is also in the middle of finalizing her newest album Spirit in the Dark. The album's first single is titled Playground and features Pharrell and will be released in September. The entire album will not be available until November 4th but the hype is already being built up about it. Good for her, at least shes keeping herself in the news for positive things at the moment...we'll have to see how the movie and the cd actually are of course so keep your eyes and ears open until then!

Get Smart gets a surprising #1

Although the reviews for Steve Carell's new comedy Get Smart were shakey it did not stop the film from earning a decent $39.2 million at the box office and getting the number 1 spot on its opening weekend. The film co-starring Anne Hathaway is based off of a 60s sitcom with the same title. Mike Meyer's Love Guru film however did not fair so well. It landed in the number 4 spot and earned only $14 million in its first weekend.

Holding onto the number 2 and 3 spots are Kung Fu Panda and The Incredible Hulk while the Kit Kettridge film opened in limited release this weekend and still took in over $200,000 in the five theaters that it debuted. The film shows promise for its opening on July 2nd nation wide although most speculate Will Smith's Hancock will be the big film of the July 4th weekend.

Daytime Emmy Awards

The Daytime Emmy Awards were last night in LA and Ellen DeGeneres took home Best Talk Show Host for the Fourth year in a row! Congrats to her! Also Rachael Ray won Best Entertainment Talk Show and beat out Ellen and The View. Oprah has not submitted herself to the Awards in awhile but Ellen says she does not plan on following in her footsteps because she does not agree with the path of her career; and as Ellen's ratings keep growing and Oprah's keep slipping many would agree that Ellen should keep doing as she thinks is best!

Keep your fingers crossed for new tv shows this fall!

In two weeks the SAG contract expires between all major TV & Film production studios. There is speculation that an agreement will not be made in time which would cause another messy and costly strike for the entertainment industry. The fall lineup of all networks and films in preproduction is in the hands of these negotiations so hopefully all will go well or else networks will have a lackluster autumn to face!

Iron Man is one hot item

Everyone seems to want a piece of Robert Downey Jr. lately, as his list of upcoming projects continues to grow. A few of those in production, pre and post are Tropic Thunder, Iron Man 2, The Avengers, Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes, and now Cowboys vs Aliens a project that is slated to be completed in 2010. If his performances in those are as good as Iron Man I hope he keeps them coming.

Another One...in the not so distant future!

MTV is at it again trying to make a spinoff from the original Laguna Beach to The Hills now its...well technically its not named. The new reality series will focus on Whitney Port and her socialite friends as she jetsets from east to west coast and works in the world of fashion. One of her socialite friends is Olivia Palermo who until now was just a very rich unknown in the world of celebrity news. However it seems this is her chance to jump into a Paris Hilton type of bandwagon and market her name and families' fortune. Well best of luck to the network, Olivia, and Whitney of course, my favorite no talent that came out of the Hills. It isn't definite yet and there is a fourth season of The Hills coming soon so this show will not be coming to our tvs any time soon, either way I'll be awaiting more news.

MTV New Reality Show Alert

The show is titled Legally Blonde: Search for the New Elle Woods and will be hosted by Hilary’s not as famous sister Haylie Duff. The premise of the show is based on contestants competing for the chance for a Broadway contract of Legally Blonde. Well I guess America needs something to watch while American Idol is not in season.

Casting News

New Clint Eastwood film called The Human Factor has just cast Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman in the lead roles. The film is based on a book by John Carlin titled The Human Factor: Nelson Mandela and the Game that Changed the World. It will follow the storyline of the 1995 Rugby World Cup which was hosted in post-apartheid South Africa that brought the nation's blacks and whites together. Damon will play the captain of the South African rugby team alongside Freeman who will play Mandela. Shooting will begin in 2009 so we'll all have to wait awhile before we can think of watching this one on the big screen.

Close to half a million for Usher

Usher's new album Here I Stand was number one on the charts this week selling over 400,000 copies. It didn't do as well as Confessions which sold over 1 million in its first week but not too shabby at all.
