Highest grossing summer in history

Although the word "recession"seems to be blurted out every 2 seconds somewhere in the United States, movie theaters thrived this summer and proved to be an escape from the crummy economy. Summer isn't even over technically yet but the national box offices have racked in $4.17 billion so far, up from $4.16 in 2007 which held the title before. The four movies to thank for this: Transformers 2, Harry Potter sequel, Up, and The Hangover. And we still have one very long weekend to go!
