What to see this weekend....

Brothers Bloom: If you are in a city where this wacky & fun action comedy is playing check it out!
It stars my personal favorites Rachel Weisz, Adrien Brody, Mark Ruffalo

Angels & Demons: If you haven't read the book, make sure you do so, but this Tom Hanks follow up to the DaVinci Code is full of that summer movie action that everyone loves this time of the year.

Just in case you were worried!

If you are an in the closet or out of the closet fan of The Hills and you were beginning to get worried about the fate of this non reality/reality MTV show then have no fear, Kristin Cavallari is here. The Laguna Beach starlet has decided there is more drama to be had in Beverly Hills and shes just the gal to jump into it. For a full interview that Cavallari did with Entertainment Weekly about why her Hills will be juicier click below! The next season which will be Lauren-less (gasp!) will be premiere this fall. Kristin's first appearance on the show at Spencer and Heidi's wedding and catches the bouquet...can this unscripted?!?! scenes get any better?

Why Kristin thinks shes better then LC v. 10

Frank Sinatra biopic

A still untitled Frank Sinatra Project which is in development has been slowly coming together with details. Martin Scorsese has joined Universal and Mandalay Pictures as the director and producer of this project. No one is officially cast in the film, however Leonardo DiCaprio is thought to be the choice to play Sinatara, as Scorsese is known to cling to his actors and DiCaprio has been in a long list of them.

This weekend I encourage a "limited" European getaway

So if you're not a Trekkie like me there are two films that are worth catching and opening only in limited release this weekend.

From the French Riviera comes the heartwarming familial tale
Summer Hours which stars one of my favorites Juliette Binoche.

The second film Little Ashes stars Robert Pattinson as Salvador Dali in 1920s Madrid as he explores his artistic visions and the changing world around him.

So which will it be France or Spain?

In case you haven't seen this yet!

I should've posted this must rent movie yesterday in honor of Cinco de Mayo, but a day late isn't too bad! Y Tu Mama Tambien came out in 2001 and was nominated for an Oscar for Best writing, and Best original screenplay. Although it didn't win the big gold statue it is definitely a movie everyone should see. The story is rich, the dialogue fulfilling, and the film is beautifuly shot. Also actors Gael Garcia Bernal, Diego Luno, and Ana Lopez Mercado bring this engaging story about life...literally to life! Check out the trailer for a sneak peek of what to expect from this film.

Great book...should be a great movie!

I received the book Julie & Julia: One Year of Cooking Dangerously by Julie Powell as a present and read through it as fast as I could. It was such an enjoyable book that when I found it was being made into a movie I was excited and hesitant about seeing this autobiographical tale done right, until I found out the cast. Two of my favorites, veteran Meryl Streep, and charming and much talented newcomer Amy Adams portray Julie and Julia in this heartwarming tale about two real woman. Julie & Julia will not be out until August 7th, but the trailer was recently released to wet our appetites!

Bon Appetite!

NBC Primetime Season Announcement

On the long list of shows that will be on NBC this coming season, a noticeably missing show is Chuck which has a small but very fanatic audience...although the network has not announced that the show has been cancelled it is not on the list of the many shows returning. Heroes, The Office, the new Parks and Recreation, and 30 Rock are among the many returning along with newcoming dramas: "Trauma," "Parenthood," "Mercy," and "Day One."

Weekend Review

One of the films I caught this past weekend at the Tribeca Film Festival was by first time writer/director Julio DePietro. DePietro, who attended the screening for a talk back, explained the book was inspired by one of his favorite books The Good Soldier, about a narrator who is not exactly as he seems. The movie follows the decietful yet lucrative Wall Street culture and how it's intertwined in the city of New York. It stars Scott Porter from the show Friday Night Lights, Alexis Bledel from Gilmore Girls, and Bryan Greenberg.

Not only was the film interesting too watch but it had a killer soundtrack to boot with many of the bands featured being from the NYC area as well.

Check out a clip below & a link of an interview Bledel did after seeing the screening....

Book Pick of the Week!

Geoff Dyer's book Jeff in Venice, Death in Varanasi is a very original novel that is split into two sections about two middle aged men who seek fulfillment in their lives and answers to what really is their meaning and purpose.

Films to catch for the weekend!

Tribeca closes tomorrow...and many films open today nationwide; here are some picks from widespread releases to what to see right here in NYC!

The Girlfriend Experience is playing right now at TFF but also opens on limited release May 22nd. The film is brought to us from director Steven Soderbergh and Magnolia Pictures and follows a Manhattan call girl for five days. "Christine" thinks she has her life completely under her control, charging $2,000 an hour, living lavishly, and having a great boyfriend to tote...but being a call girl is never a black and white situation...adult film star Sasha Grey stars in this film!

Revanche opens today in limited release in various U.S. cities. This 2009 Foreign Language Oscar Nominated film asks who's fault is it when life doesn't go as planned?

Easy Virtue

This aesthetically pleasing period piece was a spotlight film at this year's Tribeca Film Fest and will open in limited release in the US on May 22nd. Easy Virtue follows a boisterous American woman race car driver who marries a young British man who comes from a family run by a very stuffy mother. The film stars Jessica Biel, Kristin Scott Thomas, Colin Firth, and Ben Barnes. It definitely was a delight to watch! Check out the trailer below:
